Mid Month Update

It’s been a little over two weeks, so thought I’d share an update on how the play has been on Carbon Poker.  For starters, I really like the site.  It’s easy to navigate, the graphics are clean, and the players… well lets just say they like to give away money.  Over the past couple days I’ve switched from a short stack approach to buying in for table max.  It’s not a huge adjustment but there are noticeable differences between the two that I’m not really going to go into detail here but the transition has been pretty easy.  I’ve also started 3-4 tabling as opposed to 1-2 tabling which also took some getting used to but I’ve got it down now.  I remember on Bodog there were rarely more than two tables running at any stake for PLO, but on Carbon there are plenty of tables at the stakes ill be mostly playing so have to take advantage of that.  As you can see from the graph, I’ve been running right around or a little above EV which is good but a few of the sessions I’ve had, especially the recent ones, have been so rollercoaster it’s crazy.  Like yesterday for example, 30 minutes into the session I was already down 3 buyins.  After an hour I was 7 buyins deep and really didn’t think I’d be able to get it all back by the end of the day.  But couple hours later I was only down a buyin.  I can never seem to just start off up ever lol.  It’s always start off down and then make it back to turn a small profit which is definitely annoying, but there is nothing I can do except to make sure I’m making smart profitable plays every hand and the cards will fall as they fall.  My goal for the rest of the month is to reach $500 in the account so I can start playing some .10/.25 and get off this .05/.1.  I’m about $300 away, and based on the 1st half this month it seems unlikely I’ll reach that but I like a challenge.  I think my chances will improve once I start playing tourneys more regularly.

Speaking of tournaments, that was the whole reason I switched sites in the first place but man I forgot how frustrating they are.  A lot of the players have no clue how to play PLO and especially PLO8 tournaments.  I’ve tried to have a couple tourney days but after putting my money in good and busting out before the break in the first few, I always end up just saying fuck tourneys and going back to cash.  I did ship a small $2 PLO8 tourney right at the beginning of the month that was pretty bad ass because I started the final table as chip leader and was able to go wire to wire but other than that my results have been pretty uneventful.  For now I’m not too concerned about it because I need to get my bankroll up to play in the bigger tourneys where the 1st place money is much more significant.

Next post I’m going to give a few of my thoughts on the WSOP coverage this year and live broadcast coverage of poker in general.  I was going to add it here but feel it may get too lengthy, so I’ll wait until Monday or Tuesday to post it.  Shipshape.

New Home

Welcome to my new blog!  With the recent developments pertaining to online poker in this country, I’ve decided to move my blog to a new home.  When online poker does or if it ever comes back I will be playing under the name “JPFelder” (or JPFelderr if the former is already taken).  No real reason for the change of name, but just thought it was time to reintroduce myself to the online poker world when the time comes.  Although the URL has changed, the content will still be pretty much of the same.  But the frequency of posting will increase.  This is a promise.

Not much has happened since the last time I posted.  I made a deposit of $200 on Bodog back in July and was able to run it up to a little over $5k by September. I went on a little downswing, cashed $4700 of it out, then decided to take a break for most of September and beginning of October.  I really wanted to move to a different site that offered PLO & PLO8 tournaments but it seemed very difficult to find.  My prayers were answered when the Merge network re-opened there sites to U.S. players so I just deposited a $100 and plan to make a similar run on this site.  My preliminary thoughts on the site are good.  A lot more PLO cash game tables, the layout and graphics are pretty good, and the tournaments get decent turnouts.  I mean nothing like the fields from the Stars and FTP days but they’ll do.  Plus I also have the chance to earn rakeback, which is just huge for a full time player, so definitely looking forward to taking advantage of that.  Don’t know how the support is or what the average wait time for check withdrawals are so that will definitely be something I find out soon.

Now that I’ve graduated from college, I no longer have an excuse to not update this blog regularly so this is a promise.  The blog will be updated at LEAST once every two weeks and most likely once a week so check back regularly.  Also you can follow me on twitter “@JPFelderr”.   I’ll be tweeting everyday bankroll, tourney results and other useless benign observations so don’t forget to click that follow button.  For those that don’t have/want to get a twitter account, I’ll be setting up a twitter feed on this page soon so you can just check this page to get those updates as well. Aight well thats whats new for now.  Time to get in a couple of cash game sessions before tourneys start. Shipshape.
